The expensive mistakes are the ones nobody caught in time
A wrong attribute on a deity, a costume from the wrong century, a ritual staged backwards. Each is cheap to fix in pre-production and very expensive to fix after release. This is a review step that runs while the work is still cheap to change.
Why this keeps happening
Models are confidently wrong
A general image model has absorbed this material second-hand from the open web. It will render an incorrect iconographic detail with exactly the same confidence as a correct one, and nothing in the output signals which you got.
Review depends on one person
Usually the one team member who happens to know. They are a bottleneck when present and a single point of failure when on leave, and neither is a process.
It surfaces at the worst moment
Not in review, but on release day, in public, at a volume that turns a detail into the story about your production.
What the review does
A first pass that shows its working — so a human reviewer checks reasoning rather than starting from scratch.
Checked against sourced material
Depictions are compared against a curated corpus developed with research partners, rather than against whatever the open web happened to contain.
Cites what it drew on
A flag comes with the source behind it, so your art director can evaluate the reasoning instead of accepting or dismissing a verdict.
Period and convention flags
Anachronisms, mismatched regional styles and departures from established convention surfaced early, when changing them costs a re-prompt.
Says when it is unsure
On contested or thinly sourced material it tells you to consult someone rather than inventing a confident answer. A review that never says "I do not know" is not a review.
A record of what was checked
Which assets were reviewed, what was flagged, and who signed off — the trail a broadcaster or a co-production partner will ask you for.
Escalation to a human reviewer
Route flagged material to a named advisor or community consultant as a pipeline stage, rather than as an email somebody remembers to send.
What this is not
It is not a certificate, and it is not a substitute for a scholar or for consulting the community a story belongs to. Culture is contested, living, and frequently disagrees with itself — software that claimed to settle that would be selling you something false.
What it does is narrow the field: catch the errors that are simply errors, show its sources so you can check them, and make sure the judgement calls reach a person while there is still time to make them properly.
The obvious problems are caught in pre-production by a process, and the genuinely difficult questions reach a human being early enough that consulting properly is still an option.
